Blastr Green Steel will be green steel mill at Finlandi

The steel company Blastr Green Steel plans to build a green steel plant with a capacity of 2.5 million tons of ultra-low CO2 steel per year in Inkoo (Finland). This is stated in the press release of the company.

The technological partner of the project is the market leader in environmental and energy-efficient solutions for the steel industry Primetals Technologies. The partnership covers a number of important components in production, including the design of a direct iron reduction (DRI) plant, an electric steelmaking workshop, and two production lines. Primetals Technologies will develop a DRI unit that will run 100% on hydrogen, in collaboration with Midrex Technologies.

«This partnership is an important milestone on our journey towards sustainable steel production and decarbonisation. By combining our strengths with industry leaders, we are ready to drive innovation and shape the future of steel production, «said Mark Bula, CEO of Blastr Green Steel.

The future DRI plant will produce hot direct reduction iron (HDRI) directly for further processing by a steel mill, and hot briquette iron (GBZ) for shipment by third-party customers.

Primetals Technologies will also build a melting shop based on an electric arc furnace (EDP), where HDRI will be sent in combination with scrap. The company will be responsible for the complete electrification and automation of the workshop including advanced automation systems and solutions to optimize production management.

«The production process will be optimized through digitalization, increased use of robotics and advanced remote control solutions, which will ensure the highest possible level of autonomous operations and increase labor safety, which is the main priority of the project,» comments Andreas Vieboek, Head of Upstream Technologies at Primetals Technologies.

Secondary equipment, in particular the ladle furnace and reverse osmosis plant, will allow Blastr to produce high-quality steel grades for the automotive sector and other industries. In addition,

Secondary equipment, in particular the ladle furnace and reverse osmosis plant, will allow Blastr to produce high-quality steel grades for the automotive sector and other industries. In addition, the project involves the installation of energy reuse systems, a slab and hot rolling bottling line (Arvedi ESP), as well as a modern continuous etching and galvanizing line for the production of a variety of hot-rolled products.

Шn March last year, Blastr Green Steel announced its intention to invest more than €1 billion in the construction of a rolling plant in the municipality of Gildeskål in Norway. It was assumed that the plant will produce DRI-pellets, which will be used as raw materials for the company’s “green” steel plant in Finland.
