ArcelorMittal produced 29.2 million tons of steel in 1H2025

Global steel company ArcelorMittal increased steel production by 0.3% in January-June 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 29.2 million tons. This is stated in the quarterly report published on the company’s website.

Iron ore production for this period increased by 19.8% year-on-year – to 23.6 million tons. Steel shipments to customers amounted to 27.4 million tons (+0.4% y-o-y), and iron ore shipments (only for AMMC and Liberia) amounted to 17.9 million tons (+43.2% y-o-y).

In the second quarter, the company reduced steel production by 2.7% compared to the previous quarter and by 2% year-on-year – to 14.4 million tons. Rolled steel shipments increased by 1.5% quarter-on-quarter but decreased by 0.7% year-on-year to 13.8 million tons. Iron ore production amounted to 8.3 million tons (-1.2% q-o-q; +40.7% y-o-y), and shipments amounted to 9.9 million tons (+23.7% q-o-q; +59.7% y-o-y).

«Our primary focus is always to meet the requirements of the domestic markets, and our ability to produce high-quality melted and poured steels in the US was strengthened in the quarter as we took full ownership of Calvert. We have transformed Calvert from an advanced finishing operation into a low-carbon steelmaking facility capable of producing the highest-quality steels for all customer segments including automotive. Calvert will become a new center of excellence for ArcelorMittal in the United States,» commented Aditya Mittal, CEO of ArcelorMittal.

In Europe, trends toward increased government spending on defense and infrastructure are clearly positive for the steel industry, Mittal added. At the same time, despite the fact that the Steel and Metals Action Plan has demonstrated a clear intention to address critical issues, the company is still awaiting updates on protective measures, CBAM, and energy prices.

“It remains a crucial year for European steelmaking, and I sincerely hope that Europe will hold good onto its commitment to defend and prioritize its domestic steel industry,” ArcelorMittal’s CEO concluded.

As GMK Center reported earlier, ArcelorMittal reduced its steel production by 0.3% in 2024 compared to 2023, to 57.9 million tons. Iron ore production during this period increased by 0.9% y-o-y, to 42.4 million tons. Steel shipments to customers during this period amounted to 54.3 million tons (-2.3% y-o-y), and iron ore shipments (only for AMMC and Liberia) amounted to 26.4 million tons (+0% y-o-y).

ArcelorMittal is a leading global steel and mining company with a presence in 60 countries and production assets in 18 countries.
