ArcelorMittal Poland will invest PLN 1.5 billion in 2023

At the end of 2023, ArcelorMittal Poland will invest PLN 1.5 billion ($363 million) in modernization and growth projects at three enterprises to improve product quality, energy efficiency, and plant efficiency. This is stated in the company’s message.

Strategic modernization and research and development projects are being implemented at the company’s enterprises in Silesia, as well as in the Lesser Poland and Opole voivodeships.

In particular, the company has allocated PLN 720 million for the reconstruction of blast furnace No. 2 at the Dąbrowa Górnicza Steel Works, which will extend the service life of the unit by 15 years. In addition, the company is implementing a research and development project for an innovative type of rail that will expand the range of products offered to customers in Poland and abroad.

The pickling line in the cold rolling shop of the Krakow branch has also been modernized, and work is underway in the annealing shop, where the company will build hydrogen furnaces to replace the old units. The cost of all the works in Krakow is over 135 million zlotys.

«Aware of the challenges associated with the constantly changing market situation and economic fluctuations caused by completely unexpected events, such as a pandemic or the beginning of the war in Ukraine, we constantly invest in those areas of our activity that allow us to confidently compete on the steel market and maintain our factories are in good condition,» emphasizes Wojciech Kossuth, CEO of ArcelorMittal Poland.

According to Sanjay Samaddar, President of the Board of ArcelorMittal Poland, the large financial expenditures are not only the result of the need to replace some plants with new ones or the need to meet the strict requirements of EU directives. First and foremost, it is a desire to improve product quality and introduce innovative products into steelmaking processes in Poland, despite the challenges faced by steel producers across Europe.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in August 2023 ArcelorMittal Poland completed the reconstruction blast furnace No. 2 at the enterprise in Dąbrowa Górnicza – it lasted from the end of March. Among other things, it included the construction of a new cooling system and a modern blast furnace gas cleaning plant.
