ArcelorMittal Tubular Products (AMTP) Europe, the European pipe division of global steelmaker ArcelorMittal, plans to stop producing pipes at its Krakow plant from the first quarter of 2024. This is reported by Argus.Media with reference to the company’s letter to customers.
“In response to market volatility and our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, we have made a strategic decision to stop pipe production at our Krakow pipe plant. The move is part of an initiative to align business practices with sustainability goals, contributing to a greener future,» the company said.
The pipe division in Krakow supplied pipes for the infrastructure, construction and water supply industries.
The company is currently working to minimize any disruptions in supply and will continue to ship from other production units. AMTP produces pipes for industrial use at its plants in Iași, Romania, as well as in the Czech Republic and France.
ArcelorMittal has recently put its coke oven battery at its Krakow plant into hot mothballing. This decision was driven by two factors: low demand for coke and the ratio of coking coal to coke prices.
In addition, the company was shutting down a wire rod mill at its Polish plant in Sosnowiec. It was planned to shut down the mill from November 18 to 26 due to the difficult situation on the domestic steel market.
