The Brazilian company ArcelorMittal Pecem (AMP) in June 2023 increased the export of slabs by 57.8% m/m – up to 278.6 thousand tons. Compared to June 2022, the volume of foreign deliveries decreased by 9.9% y/y. Kallanish reports about it with the reference to the data of the local port authority.

In January-June 2023, the export of AMP slabs increased by 6.6% y/y – up to 1.46 million tons.

In the period until the end of June, the main foreign point of supply of ArcelorMittal Pecem slabs was the United States, which accounted for 42% of total exports. During this period, AMP also exported these products to Mexico (11%), Germany (3%) and Belgium (3%). The Brazilian domestic market accounted for 41% of AMP deliveries.

As GMK Center reported earlier, the Brazilian producer of high-quality slabs Companhia Siderúrgica do Pecém (CSP) became a part of the ArcelorMittal group in March 2023. At the first stage, the plant planned to increase the production rate of slabs from the current 2.85 million tons per year to 3 million tons per year. Such a goal has not been achieved since the opening of the enterprise in 2008. Following the acquisition of Pecem, ArcelorMittal increased its flat steel production capacity in Brazil to 10.5 million tons per year.

Also, ArcelorMittal announced about signing the agreement with the shareholders of the Brazilian Companhia Siderúrgica do Pecém to acquire the company for $2.2 billion at the end of July 2022.
