About €300 million is needed to restore Ukraine’s energy sector after the Russian shelling

The needs for the restoration of the energy infrastructure of Ukraine after the massive missile attacks are estimated at approximately €300 million. This was reported by the head of the Verkhovna Rada committee on the country’s integration into the EU, Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, reports the website of the parliament.

During the meeting with the vice-president of the European Commission for inter-institutional relations, Marosh Šefčovych, held on November 15, Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze noted that with the approach of winter, when Ukrainians increasingly feel the consequences of Russian energy terror, our state needs further significant support from the EU. Ukraine is counting on the coordinating role of the EC in attracting the support of EU member states.

According to the deputy, the needs of our country include transformers, components, spare parts and consumables for the restoration of damaged electricity facilities. In addition, Ukraine needs generators, including mobile ones, fuel reserves and various types of batteries. In case of a critical situation, according to the head of the committee, our state would count on the possibility of the minimum necessary flow of electricity from the EU to the Ukrainian power grid.

Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze also reported that last week 17 EU countries sent 500 generators to Ukraine through the Civil Protection Mechanism.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Russian attacks on critical infrastructure facilities in October 2022 worsened the fall in GDP to the level of 39% by October 2021. This is worse than the indicators that were in September-August — 35%, said the First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy Yuliya Svyridenko.

Also, strikes on the energy infrastructure made the work of steel sector more difficult. Companies in the industry are working to reduce volumes and introduce measures to save electricity
