7 million tons of goods were exported through the Ukrainian sea corridor

200 vessels have already exported 7 million tons of cargo through the Ukrainian sea corridor from the ports of Greater Odesa. This was announced by Oleksandr Kubrakov, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine, Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine.

«Since August 8, 200 vessels have passed through the Ukrainian corridor established by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for the exit from the ports and 226 for the entrance,» he noted.

According to him, 5 million tons of the 7 million tons of cargo exported from Pivdennyi, Odesa and Chornomorsk ports during the period were agricultural products. The Vice Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine also clarified that as of December 4, 31 vessels were loading in these ports, and another 30 were following the corridor in both directions.

In January-October 2023, Ukrainian seaports increased cargo transshipment by 13.2% compared to the same period in 2022, up to 46.2 million tons. Sea freight exceeded the previous year’s figure despite Russia’s withdrawal from the grain deal on July 17 and the aggressor country’s attempts to block sea transportation. Within 10 months, port operators increased export cargo transshipment by 22.8% yoy to 41.7 million tons.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in January-October 2023, the Danube ports handled 27.6 million tons of cargo, up 45.6% year-on-year. Ukraine plans to increase their capacity to 30 million tons per year and ensure that vessels with higher cargo capacity can call at the ports.
