Zaporizhzhia Ferroalloy Plant stops furnace units for the winter period

Zaporizhzhia Ferroalloy Plant (ZFP) suspends the operation of furnace units in the winter period to carry out repair work. This is stated in the press release.

ZFP is one of the largest energy-intensive enterprises of the Zaporizhzhia region. This is due primarily to the continuous operation of powerful units. To ensure stable operation of the enterprise, electricity and water supply must be guaranteed. The presence of interruptions in the supply of electricity and water has a negative effect on the technical condition of furnace units at their very high cost.

«Taking into account the experience of the previous winter period in the conditions of restrictions on the supply of electricity, caused by the destruction of critical infrastructure facilities and the need to provide heat to the residents of the region, reducing the load on the power grid of the region and Ukraine, as well as the presence of ferroalloy residues in the company’s warehouses, a decision was made to stop furnaces aggregates,» the message says.

Suspension of furnaces is carried out in order to prepare the equipment for stable operation at the end of the heating season, with maximum efficient production.

«The decision was made taking into account the orders of domestic buyers for this period, which will be supplied with available ferroalloys,» ZFP adds.

During this period of shutdown for carrying out repairs in order to maintain qualified specialists, they will be provided with timely payment of wages. Also, the plant does not stop paying the average salary to mobilized employees.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in January-March 2023 ZFP produced 0.91 thousand tons of products, which is 41.2 times less compared to the same period in 2022. In general, ferroalloy enterprises of Ukraine during this period reduced their output by 2.7 times compared to the same period last year – to 70,000 tons.
