The Zaporizhstal Steel Works took first place in the ranking of the largest employers in the Zaporizhzhia region. This was reported by the company’s press service, citing data from the OpenDataBot analytical platform.
The ranking was compiled based on an analysis of Ukrainian companies’ financial statements for 2025. Zaporizhstal Steel Works became the leader in the Zaporizhzhia region in terms of the number of employees, which exceeds 8,000.
The plant operates amid a full-scale war, providing employment for thousands of workers and specialists in related industries, ensuring timely payment of wages, and offering social benefits. Zaporizhstal remains one of the key drivers of the region’s economy, a major exporter, contributes to budget revenues, and supports the social stability of communities. In 2025, the steel mill paid nearly 2.7 billion UAH in taxes to budgets at all levels.
“The status of the region’s largest employer is not primarily about numbers, but about the responsibility of a company that has been shaping the history of Ukrainian stel industry for over 90 years. In the frontline city of Zaporizhzhia, Zaporizhstal preserves jobs in the mining and metallurgical complex and related industries, supports the region’s stability, and fuels the national economy, making a significant contribution to preserving the country’s export potential, which is vital for Ukraine’s future reconstruction,” noted Taras Shevchenko, Acting CEO of Zaporizhstal.
Zaporizhstal systematically develops training and retraining programs, creates opportunities for the professional growth and development of young specialists, including the “Steel Future” and “First Job” motivational programs for youth, as well as employment and reintegration programs for war veterans.
As a reminder, during the first quarter, Zaporizhstal increased steel production by 1.3% compared to the same period in 2025—to 758,200 tons—while pig iron production fell by 3.6% year-on-year, to 819,300 tons. Rolled steel production for the period increased by 3.7% year-over-year, to 660,100 tons.
