Zaporizhstal produced 219.4 thousand tons of rolled steel in March

In March 2024, Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works increased its production of commercial rolled steel products by 45.5% compared to March 2023, to 219.4 thousand tons. This is stated in the company’s press release.

The volume of pig iron production for the month amounted to 273.1 thousand tons, up 41.1% y/y, and steel production – 260 thousand tons (+41% y/y). Rolled steel production increased by 10.5% y/y, pig iron production – by 9.8% y/y, and steel production – by 10.4% y/y.

In January-March, rolled steel production increased by 88.9% year-on-year – to 615.3 thousand tons. Pig iron production amounted to 785.4 thousand tons (+71.4% y/y), and steel production amounted to 731 thousand tons (+85.7% y/y).

In January 2024, Zaporizhstal produced 196 thousand tons of rolled products, 261 thousand tons of pig iron and 235.5 thousand tons of steel, and in February – 198.5 thousand tons, 248.8 thousand tons and 235.4 thousand tons, respectively.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Zaporizhstal increased its output by 50.6% year-on-year – to 7.24 million tons. In particular, the plant produced

  • pig iron – 2.72 million tons (+35.3% y/y);
  • steel – 2.47 million tons (+65.4%);
  • rolled products – 2.05 million tons (+57.2%).

Hostile shelling and destruction, interruptions in the supply of raw materials and energy, and disruption of logistics routes due to the blockade of seaports led to a decrease in Zaporizhstal’s production performance compared to pre-war levels. In particular, in 2021, the plant produced 4.5 million tons of pig iron, 3.8 million tons of steel and 3.2 million tons of rolled products. In 2023, the plant operated at an average of 70% of its capacity.
