Zaporizhstal produced 198.5 thousand tons of rolled products in February

In February 2024, Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works increased its production of commercial rolled metal products by 99.3% compared to February 2023, up to 198.5 thousand tons. This is stated in the company’s press release.

The volume of pig iron production for the month amounted to 248.8 thousand tons, which is 98.7% more than in the previous month, and steel – 235.4 thousand tons (+97.2% y/y). Rolled steel production increased by 1.3% month-on-month, while iron production decreased by 4.7% and steel production remained flat.

In January-November, rolled products production increased by 127% year-on-year – to 395.3 thousand tons. Pig iron production amounted to 512.3 thousand tons (+75.7% y/y), and steel production amounted to 471.1 thousand tons (+125.2% y/y).

In January 2024, Zaporizhstal produced 196 thousand tons of rolled products, 261 thousand tons of pig iron and 235.5 thousand tons of steel.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Zaporizhstal increased its output by 50.6% year-on-year – to 7.24 million tons. In particular, the plant produced:

  • pig iron – 2.72 million tons (+35.3% y/y);
  • steel – 2.47 million tons (+65.4%);
  • rolled goods – 2.05 million tons (+57.2%).

Enemy shelling and destruction, interruptions in the supply of raw materials and energy, and disruption of logistics routes due to the blockade of seaports led to a decline in Zaporizhstal’s production performance compared to pre-war levels. In particular, in 2021, the plant produced 4.5 million tons of iron, 3.8 million tons of steel and 3.2 million tons of rolled products. In 2023, the plant operated at an average of 70% of its capacity.
