Zaporizhstal invested UAH 40.3 million in the overhaul of the PRK-5 car dumper

In November 2025, Metinvest Group’s Zaporizhstal steelworks successfully completed a major overhaul of the PRK-5 car dumper, one of the company’s key logistics facilities, which handles around 250 railcars carrying raw materials weighing 70 tons each every day. The total cost of the overhaul was UAH 40.3 million, according to a press release from the company.

This unit is effectively the “gateway to the plant,” ensuring the continuity of production processes in blast furnace production.

The work was planned to be completed in seven days, but specialists from the CRMU, CRMEC, blast furnace division, and ZLMZ workshops completed the task 12 hours ahead of schedule. Up to 70 specialists of various profiles worked at the facility every day, which made it possible to optimize the repair schedule and minimize the impact on the production cycle.

During the repair, key components of the car dumper responsible for its safe and reliable operation were updated. In particular, the mechanisms for rotating and moving the unit were repaired, the metal structures of the rollers were updated, and worn electric motors and cable and wire products were replaced. Another important step was the replacement of the rail track, which ensures the stability and accuracy of the equipment under heavy loads.

The company emphasizes that this is an investment in the continuity of production processes and improving the reliability of the plant’s logistics infrastructure.

As a reminder, in 2025, Zaporizhstal completed a large-scale complex of repairs of the main units in the blast furnace, open-hearth, and hot rolling shops. The total budget for the work was UAH 370 million. The work was carried out continuously with the participation of more than 400 specialists.
