The Zaporizhstal steelworks has begun supplying rolled products to Metinvest Tubular Iasi (Romania), which joined the group at the end of last year. This was reported in a statement by the company.
Since the beginning of this year, the company has shipped its first batches – 22,000 tons of hot-rolled structural steel certified according to the European standard EN 10025. In total, up to 180,000 tons of rolled steel are planned to be delivered to the pipe plant in 2026.
As noted by Taras Shevchenko, acting CEO of Zaporizhstal, the company ships up to 80% of its metal products each year for the manufacture of straight-seam pipes and profiles, and the plant’s rolled products are in demand among European and Ukrainian pipe manufacturers.
«We are pleased to welcome Romanian pipe manufacturers to the Metinvest Group and to establish a new format of cooperation to strengthen the economic partnership between Ukraine and Europe,» Shevchenko added.
Zaporizhstal’s rolled products are used to manufacture round, profile, and rectangular welded pipes that comply with European standards EN 10219 and EN 10217 and are used in geothermal engineering, energy, construction, and fire extinguishing systems, among other applications, explained Cosmin Toma, CEO of Metinvest Tubular Iasi.
«Zaporizhstal steel pipes have proven to fully meet the high requirements during testing, so we are establishing long-term mutually beneficial cooperation with Zaporizhzhia steelmakers,» he emphasized.
Metinvest Tubular Iasi has five pipe mills, two longitudinal cutting lines, and two coating lines. The largest consumers of pipes produced by this enterprise are the domestic market of Romania, as well as companies from Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, and other European countries.
As a reminder, Metinvest closed the deal to acquire the Romanian company ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Iași, located in Iași, on December 16 last year. The plant specializes in the production of welded structural pipes for construction, mechanical engineering, infrastructure, and the agricultural sector. Its maximum production capacity is 240,000 tonnes per year.
The asset became the group’s first production site in Romania. In 2026, Metinvest plans to integrate the Iași plant into its own production and organisational chains.
