Zaporizhstal allocated more than 1.3 thousand tons of oxygen to Ukrainian hospitals in 2022

In 2022, Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works handed over 1.3 thousand tons of medical oxygen to the hospitals of Ukraine. This is stated in the press release on the company’s website.

During 2022, the plant provided vital oxygen free of charge to 14 hospitals in the Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk regions.

Due to the full-scale war in Ukraine, the volume of oxygen supplies and the geography of distribution have significantly decreased. On average, the volume of oxygen shipment was 70 tons per month. Zaporizhzhia City Hospital and the Regional Infectious Disease Hospital were the largest consumers.

“Doctors on the frontline of the medical front save the lives of thousands of civilians and military Ukrainians, Metinvest and Zaporizhstal provide them with maximum support in these extremely difficult times. At the request of doctors, we provide assistance in supplying consumables, medicines, medical equipment and supply medical oxygen absolutely free of charge to Ukrainian hospitals. Systemic support from our side will continue in 2023 as well,” said the acting CEO of Zaporizhstal Roman Slobodyanuk.

Medical oxygen is used for severe respiratory diseases, heart failure, poisoning, and for surgical anesthesia. In particular, oxygen therapy is used to treat acute respiratory disease COVID-19, caused by the SARSr-CoV coronavirus. During treatment, one ton of oxygen covers the needs of about 100 patients.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in the first half of 2022, within the framework of Metinvest’s Steel Front, Ukrainian hospitals received 1,072 thousand tons of oxygen.

Also, the Metinvest Group, with the support of Ingulets Mining, purchased and installed two Malcomson stationary generators with a capacity of 165 kW and 265 kW for UAH 3 million in Kryvyi Rih Hospital №17. As part of cooperation with the company, the hospital is carrying out capital repairs of wards and departments, purchasing modern medical equipment, and improving the material and technical base.
