The plant has completed the first phase of the major overhaul of the «Slabing 1150» and BTLS-1680 ahead of schedule
At the Zaporizhstal Steel Works, part of the Metinvest Group, the first phase of the major overhaul of the Slabbing 1150 and BTLS-1680 rolling mills in the hot rolling shop has been completed. The total investment in this phase of the overhaul amounted to UAH 9.8 million, according to a press release from the company.
The work was carried out as part of a phased equipment modernization program being implemented throughout the year.
During the first stage, new spindles for the horizontal roll stands were installed on the “Slabbing 1150” mill, the hydraulic system was repaired, the roll stand assemblies were refurbished, and certain sections of the roller tables and the transmission gearbox were restored. On the BTLS-1680, repairs were carried out on the No. 2 stand gearbox, including the replacement of shaft assemblies; the drive line of one of the stands was restored; the gear roller was replaced; the coil box was partially repaired; and the coiler assemblies were restored, along with the replacement of chains in individual sections of the roller table.
Specialists from the plant’s maintenance departments, as well as hydraulic engineers from Kametstal, were involved in the work. The company notes that the planned measures were completed ahead of schedule.
The next phase of the hot rolling mill overhaul at the plant is scheduled for the fall.
As reported by GMK Center, in 2025, Zaporizhstal increased its rolled steel production by 15.1% compared to 2024, reaching 2.795 million tons. Pig iron production over 12 months amounted to 3.568 million tons, up 15% year-over-year. Steel output rose by 11.1% year-over-year, to 3.212 million tons.
