Zaporizhcoke increased production to 593,000 tons in January-August

Zaporizhcoke, one of Ukraine’s largest producers of metallurgical coke, increased its output by 1.5% year-on-year – to 592,600 tons in January-August 2025, according to GMK Center’s calculations based on the company’s data.

In August, production increased by 0.9% compared to the previous month and by 6.8% year-on-year, reaching 79.6 thousand tons, the highest level in recent years.

Coke imports to Ukraine in January-June 2025 increased by 9.8% y/y – to 324.16 thousand tons. In June, imports of coke amounted to 26.41 thousand tons, which is 38.5% less than in the previous month and 68% less than in June 2024.

In early April, the first ship of 2025 with coking coal from the US, chartered by the Metinvest Group, arrived in the country. The bulk carrier Bison delivered 80 thousand tons of raw materials from the United Coal Company, which is part of the group and located in the Appalachian region of the US. The company planned to import 80,000 tons of raw materials per month to ensure production after the Pokrovsk Coal Group was shut down.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2024, Zaporizhcoke increased coke production by 2.1% compared to 2023, to 874,600 tons.

Since 2022, the company has allocated more than UAH 360 million for the capital renovation of the coke oven fleet. Most of the funds were invested in the overhaul of coke batteries No. 2 and No. 5-6. Recent investment projects include the overhaul of coke pusher No. 3 on coke battery (CB) No. 5-6 and the overhaul of the U-30 charge feeding line in the coal preparation shop.

Zaporizhcoke is a key producer of coke chemical products in Ukraine. It is part of the Metinvest Group. The main consumer of its products is the Zaporizhstal steelworks.
