Zaporizhabrasive is improving the environmental characteristics of its facilities despite the war

Over the past three years, Zaporizhia Abrasive Plant has invested over UAH 23 million in environmental projects. GMK Center was informed about this by the press service of the enterprise.

The most significant of the measures in recent years have been the reconstruction of gas cleaning units (GCU) of furnace №1 and №2 of workshop №2. In addition, the modernization of aspiration units (AU) №13, 14 and 16 in workshop №2 was carried out. In 2020, the reconstruction of the GCU of furnace №2 in workshop №2 was completed.

«This is a serious and expensive project, which allowed the enterprise to reduce emissions into the atmosphere by more than four times. The total amount of expenses was about UAH 22 million,» the company notes.

In 2021, the reconstruction of aspiration units AU-13 and AU-14 was carried out in workshop №62.

«Previously, these aspiration units used devices with a wet dust collection system. That is, water was supplied to the treatment plants, with the help of which the dust was captured, and in the future in the form of sludge it went to the water treatment facilities. As a result of the reconstruction, cartridge filters capable of capturing 99.9% of dust were introduced instead of the water system for dust collection. The efficiency of our AU-13 and AU-14 after the reconstruction reached 98%,» commented the acting head of the department Dmytro Slyunin.

As a result of the reconstruction of AU-13 and AU-14 of the combine, it was possible to reduce dust emissions into the atmosphere to 22-24 mg/m cube, and the collected dust can be reused. The total costs for the reconstruction of the relevant aspiration units amounted to more than UAH 2.5 million.

In 2022, the AU-16 was modernized in workshop №62. According to preliminary calculations, the cost of improving the unit amounted to about 1 million UAH.

Soon, the plant plans to start developing a project to create a system for continuous monitoring of emissions from furnaces №1 and №2 in workshop №2.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Zaporizhabrasive directed UAH 7.36 million to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, payments to servicemen and their families. In general, the company allocated more than UAH 1 million to support the army. The amount of payments to mobilized workers and their families amounted to over UAH 6.3 million.

As GMK Center reported earlier, capital investment in the industry of Ukraine in 2021 increased by 34.6% compared to 2020 – up to UAH 536.34 billion. In particular, Ukrainian steelmakers increased the indicator by 48.% y/y – up to UAH 25.86 billion. The share of steel companies in the total volume of capital investments in industry for the year was 9.92%.

Zaporizhabrasive is the only producer of grinding materials in Ukraine and one of the largest producers of abrasives in Eastern Europe. The company produces a wide range of products based on modern technologies. The plant continues to work even in the conditions of a large-scale war, supporting the Ukrainian economy.
