Wuppermann has opened a new pipe plant at its site in Austria

Wuppermann Metalltechnik (WMT) has opened a new tube plant at its site in Altmünster, Austria. Construction began in July 2023. The project is estimated to have cost €40 million, according to Kallanish.

The new production line enables the manufacture of a significantly wider range of sizes—complex and custom geometries with increased cross-sections up to 130 mm and thicknesses of 1–4 mm. The products will also feature pickled, galvanized, or zinc-magnesium surface coatings.

During construction, 100 precast reinforced concrete columns were installed for the 8,860-square-meter hall. To ensure climate-neutral heating in the future, WMT installed geothermal probes with a total length of approximately 5,000 meters. The first pipe was manufactured as early as July 2025, and the commissioning of the continuous rolling mill and internal pipe scraping was completed in the fall.

The new production line is adjacent to the facilities of the Wuppermann plant.

As a reminder, Austrian steel companies increased steel production by 5.9% in 2025 compared to 2024, reaching 620,000 tons. The country ranks 20th in WorldSteel’s global ranking of steel producers.
