Ветровая электростанция Stanglalm
In Austria (federal state of Styria), a wind farm that will supply electricity to the Voestalpine steel producer has officially started operating. This is stated in the message of the Austrian industry association IG Windkraft.
The Stanglalm wind farm consists of nine Vestas V 126 wind turbines and is capable of producing 89 GWh of electricity per year, which is equivalent to the consumption of more than 25,000 households.
These capacities will be complemented by another wind park (Hochpürschtling), also equipped with nine turbines. Stanglalm’s electricity will be sold exclusively by Voestalpine, providing the steel company with renewable energy from regional sources.
Member of the board of Voestalpine Franz Kainersdorfer noted the importance of the wind farm for the program of the greentec steel group, which envisages the transition to electric arc furnaces by 2027.
According to IG Windkraft, Styria is the federal state with the second largest wind potential in Austria. It currently has 114 wind turbines with a capacity of 294 MW, and there is great potential for further expansion. Only 2% of the territory of Styria can produce 16 TWh of wind energy. The local government has announced that it aims to build 250 wind turbines by 2030.
As GMK Center reported earlier, Voestalpine started implementation of the project for the construction of an electric arc furnace (EAF) at the Donawitz steel plant, which is part of the greentec steel plan. Construction will begin in 2024, the unit is scheduled to be commissioned in 2027. Investments in the facility in Donawitz will amount to about €450 million. Greentec steel is a step-by-step plan for the production of environmentally friendly steel from the Voestalpine Group. In the first stage, electric arc furnaces will be built at steel plants in Linz and Donawitz.
