In January-May 2024, Ukrainian Railways (UZ) transported 2.07 million tons of iron ore through the Ukrainian-Polish border crossings. This was discussed during a meeting of representatives of Ukrainian Railways with Polish carriers, Rail.Insider reports.
In general, within 5 months, the transfer of goods through the Ukrainian-Polish border crossings increased by 34% compared to the same period in 2023 – up to 9.32 million tons.
All border crossings showed positive dynamics. Thus, 214 thousand tons of cargo were transferred through the Rava-Ruska-Werhata junction (+3.5 times y/y), Yagodyn-Dorogusk – 1.74 million tons (+71% y/y), Mostyska-Medyka – 2.29 million tons (+26% y/y), Izov-Grubieszów – 5.08 million tons (+25% y/y).

As GMK Center reported earlier, in January-May 2024, UZ increased iron ore exports by 2.1 times compared to the same period in 2023, to 15.23 million tons. Grains were transported 16.17 million tons (+38.9% y/y), ferrous metals – 2.02 million tons (+4% y/y). In total, UZ transported 75.43 million tons of cargo during the period, up 29.9% y/y. The company transported 37.97 million tons of cargo for export (+56.7% y/y).
In 2023, Ukrainian Railways transported 148.4 million tons of cargo, down 1.5%, or 2.2 million tons, compared to 2022. Transportation of iron ore decreased by 13.2% y/y to 27.5 million tons, ferrous metals – by 10.6% y/y, to 8.2 million tons, and grain – by 5.9% y/y, to 30.6 million tons.
