In January-April 2024, Ukrainian Railways JSC (UZ) increased the transportation of iron ore through Ukrainian-Polish border crossings by 10% compared to the same period in 2023, up to 1.59 million tons. This was discussed during a meeting of representatives of Ukrainian Railways with Polish carriers, Rail.insider reports.
In total, 7.43 million tons of cargo were transported by rail to Poland in 4 months, which is 28% more than in the same period in 2023. In particular, 4.12 million tons (+14% y/y) of cargo were transported in the direction of the Izov-Grubieszów border crossing. The Mostyska-Medyka junction carried 1.87 million tons of cargo (+32% y/y), Yahodyn-Dorogusk – 1.4 million tons (+70% y/y), Rava-Ruska-Verkhrata – 145 thousand tons (+2.2 times y/y).
Iron ore accounted for the largest volume of transportation. Grain shipments reached 966 thousand tons, down 16% compared to January-April 2023. The transportation of oil products increased by 68% (851 thousand tons). Coal shipments increased 4.4 times (595 thousand tons), and construction materials increased 2.2 times (553 thousand tons).
In January-April 2024, Ukrainian Railways exported 12.52 million tons of iron ore (+2.1 times y/y), 12.89 million tons of grain (+22.8% y/y), and 1.6 million tons of ferrous metals (+9.1% y/y). In total, UZ transported 59.9 million tons of cargo over the period, up 28.7% y/y. The company shipped 30.42 million tons of cargo for export (+48.8% y/y).
