UZ plans to index the contractual tariffs at the beginning of 2023

At the beginning of 2023, Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) plans to increase prices for services provided by stations and branches at free tariffs by 38.3%. Rail.insider reports about it.

These are services provided by the company’s stations and branches – in particular, loading, unloading, weighing, shunting, etc.

According to UZ board member Vyacheslav Eryomin, the percentage of indexation is related to the increase in the producer price index (PII) in 2022.

As Valeriy Tkachev, deputy director of the UZ’s commercial work department, noted, according to the procedure, indexing should be carried out once every three months in accordance with the change in the index of the PII. He reported on Facebook, that this year it is held for the first time. The indexation will be announced approximately on December 15-17, 2022, the new tariffs will enter into force one month after the official announcement.

At the same time, a possible increase in tariffs for cargo transportation in 2023 is not yet planned due to the lack of macroeconomic forecasts for the next year.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia in January-November 2022 reduced transportation of cargo by 51.1% compared to the same period last year – to 140.5 million tons. In 11 months of 2022, domestic transportation decreased by 48.6% y/y, export – by 45.8% y/y, import – by 68% y/y.

Also, in November 2022, UZ reduced export transportation of iron ore by 20.6%, or by 199.9 thousand tons, compared to the previous month. Transportation of iron ore for export decreased against the background of high electricity prices in Europe. Due to the energy crisis, steelmakers partially cut production, so the need for raw materials decreases.
