In January-July 2023, the USA increased the import of pipes from Ukraine by 2.4 times compared to the same period in 2022 – up to 76.3 thousand tons. Import costs during this period increased by 2.1 times y/y – up to $151 million. This is evidenced by UN Comtrade’s data.
The main volume of imports is pipes, tubes and hollow, seamless profiles made of ferrous metals (HS 7304) – 76.29 thousand tons (+2.4 times y/y). Other pipes, tubes and hollow profiles made of ferrous metals account for a small amount of imports.
In July 2023, American suppliers consumed 5.2 thousand tons of pipes from Ukraine, which is 25% less compared to July 2022, and 70% less compared to the previous month. In general, in July the USA imported the smallest volume of pipes since March, when only 0.07 thousand tons of Ukrainian-made pipes were shipped to American consumers.
The average monthly import volume of Ukrainian pipes to the USA for January-July is 10.9 thousand tons compared to 4.5 thousand tons in January-July 2022.
As GMK Center reported earlier, in January-July pipe producers of Ukraine exported 220.2 thousand tons of pipes, which is 6.1% less compared to the same period in 2022. In August, Ukraine reduced exports by 24.5% compared to June 2023 and by 26% y/y – up to 22.73 thousand tons.
Also, from August 3, 2023, the United States established weighted average dumping margin for OCTG pipes from Ukraine in the amount of 4.89%. In addition, the States chose the former anti-dumping duty in the amount of 4.99% on seamless pipes of Ukrainian production.
