US reduced pipes imports from Ukraine by 24% y/y in January-November

In January-November 2023, the United States reduced imports of pipes from Ukraine by 24% compared to the same period in 2022, to 86.82 thousand tons. Import costs for this period fell by 25.7% y/y – to $170.9 million. This is evidenced by UN Comtrade data.

The main imports were hollow tubes, pipes and profiles, seamless, of ferrous metals (HS 7304) – 86.81 thousand tons (-24% y/y). A small part of the imports was accounted for by other pipes, tubes and profiles of hollow ferrous metals.

In November 2023, US buyers consumed 0.34 thousand tons of pipes from Ukraine, down 99% compared to November 2022 and 92% compared to the previous month. Overall, in November, the United States imported the smallest volume of pipes since August, when only 0.011 thousand tons of Ukrainian pipes were shipped to American consumers.

The average monthly volume of imports of Ukrainian pipes to the United States in January-November amounted to 7.89 thousand tons, compared to 10.36 thousand tons in January-November 2022.

In January-November, Ukrainian pipe companies shipped 333.49 thousand tons of pipes for export for $555.59 million. Revenues from sales abroad fell by 13.9% year-on-year, while exports decreased by 11.8%.

The main consumers of Ukrainian pipes are Germany, the US, Romania and Poland.

As GMK Center reported earlier, starting from August 3, 2023, the US set a weighted average dumping margin for OCTG pipes from Ukraine at 4.89%. In addition, the US has imposed a provisional anti-dumping duty of 4.99% on seamless pipes made in Ukraine.
