Ukrzaliznytsia to build and repair 150 km of tracks in 2022

Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) plans to build and repair a record amount of infrastructure – 149.3 km of railway tracks by the end of 2022. The company’s press service reported about it on its Telegram-channel.

In addition, the railway operator intends to electrify 56.8 km of tracks. The main works will be focused on the infrastructure modernization in the direction of transitions with the EU countries.

UZ also continues to update its passenger rolling stock. Thus, the second double-decker Skoda train returned to the route this week.

“We work under martial law. If it used to take months or even years to build a bridge, now it takes less than a month. It used to take days to restore the infrastructure, but now it takes hours,” the railway operator sums up.

As GMK Center reported earlier, as of mid-May 2022, Ukrzaliznytsia renewed 195.8 km of railway tracks by various types of repair. Thus, 55.9 km of tracks were reconstructed, 25.2 km of tracks were renovated with major repairs, and 114.7 km were renovated with average repairs.

In general, for the period of martial law in 2022, the UZ approved a plan that includes the reconstruction of 131.6 km of tracks, the overhaul of 24.86 km,  and the reconstruction of 55 railroad switches sets.

As GMK Center wrote before, in 2021, Ukrzaliznytsia increased capital repairs and reconstruction of railway tracks by 2 times compared to 2020 – up to 321.6 km. During the year, the volume of tracks overhaul increased by 2.6 times – up to 127.3 km, and reconstruction – by 72.6%, up to 194.3 km.
