Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) introduces new conventions (restrictions) for carriage of wagons towards Hungary and the Czech Republic, informs Rail.Insider with a reference to UZ.
One of the restrictions introduced by the national railway operator concerns the transportation of sinter ore, iron ore and concentrate through Chop to the Czech stations of Trzynec and Ostrava-Bartowice for the consignees Trinecke zelezarny and Liberty Ostrava. The convention will be implemented from January 29 and will be valid until canceled.
In addition, UZ expanded the nomenclature of cargoes in the limitation to the transportation of wagons for the Hungarian MMV through the Batyovo station. The convention enters into force on January 26.
As the publication notes, together with the two mentioned above, the total number of active conventions published on the Ukrzaliznytsia website has already reached 200.
As GMK Center reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia in 2022 reduced transportation of iron and manganese ores by 45.9 million tons, or by 59.2%, compared to the same period last year – to 31.7 million tons. The transportation of ferrous metals last year decreased by 57.8% compared to 2021 year – to about 9.2 million tons. In total, during the year, UZ transported 150.6 million tons of cargo, which is 52.1% less compared to 2021.
Also, Ukrainian mining companies in 2022 reduced exports of iron ore by 45.9% compared to 2021 – to 23.98 million tons. In monetary terms, the export of iron ore decreased by 57.8% year-on-year – to $2.91 billion.
