The country reduced steel production by 6.3 times and holds 36th place in the global ranking of producing countries

Ukraine in June 2022 reduced steel production by 6.3 times compared to June 2021, to 295 thousand tons. This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine with reference to data from the World Steel Association.

Thus, Ukraine has been holding 36th place in the global steelmaking ranking since April, while in June 2021 the country was ranked 13th.

Global steelmaking in June 2022 decreased by 5.9% compared to June 2021, to 158.1 billion tons. The top three producing countries, according to World Steel, included:

  • China – 90.7 million tons (-3.3% compared to June 2021);
  • India – 10 million tons (+6.3%);
  • Japan – 7.4 million tons (-8.1%).

As GMK Center reported earlier, at the end of 2021 global steel release increased by 3.7% compared to 2020 – up to 1.95 billion tons. Ukraine for the year increased melting by 3.6% – up to 21.4 million tons. The country took 14th place in the global ranking of 64 steel producing countries.
