In January-July 2024, steel companies of Ukraine increased the export of flat products by 85.1% compared to the same period in 2023 – up to 958.07 thousand tons. This is evidenced by the data of the State Customs Service.

During July, the export of flat rolled products from Ukraine fell by 19.9% compared to the previous month, and increased by 31.5% compared to July 2023 – to 125.18 thousand tons. Shipments of hot-rolled flat products decreased by 19.5 % m/m and increased by 60.5% y/y – to 108.94 thousand tons, flat cold-rolled products – fell by 26.8% m/m and 14.9% y/y, up to 12.3 thousand tons, and coated flat rolled products – increased by 7.9% m/m and fell by 73.7% y/y – to 3.28 thousand tons.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukraine reduced the export of flat products by 26.4% compared to 2022 – to 1.202 million tons. The revenue from the export of products for the year decreased by 42.2% y/y – to $782.3 million.

Although the export figure in 2023 is lower than in 2022 (1.63 million tons), it is still significantly higher than in March-December 2022 (the period after the start of the full-scale invasion). From the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion until the end of 2022, Ukrainian steelmakers exported only 594.54 thousand tons of flat rolled products, and the main volume of export for 2022 was shipped in January-February – 1.04 million tons.

Thus, for the year 2023, Ukrainian steelmakers have doubled the indicators of the previous year, excluding pre-war January-February.
