In January 2025, Ukrainian steel companies increased exports of flat steel products by 15.7% compared to the same month in 2024, to 155.5 thousand tons. The figure was up 28.8% month-on-month. This is based on GMK Center’s calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.
January export volumes are the highest since September last year, when 178.82 thousand tons of the product were shipped.
Hot-rolled flat products (HS 7208) accounted for the largest volumes of shipments, amounting to 129.82 thousand tons, up 17.5% y/y and 31% m/m. Poland and Bulgaria were among the key consumers, accounting for 43.44 thousand tons and 32.14 thousand tons respectively.
The company also exported 19.8 thousand tons of flat cold-rolled products (HS 7209), up 6.9% y/y and 22.5% m/m. Poland and Italy became the main destinations for shipments, with 4.94 kt and 4.86 kt respectively.
Coated flat products accounted for another 5.8 thousand tons of exports. This is 12% more than in January 2024 and 6.8% more than in the previous month. The Polish market received 3.83 thousand tons of the product, and Romania – 1.82 thousand tons.
Revenue from flat products exports in January amounted to $81.09 million, up 6.1% y/y and 17.2% m/m.
As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2024, Ukraine increased exports of flat products by 36.1% compared to 2023, to 1.63 million tons. Hot-rolled flat products accounted for more than 80% of shipments, amounting to 1.363 million tons (+44.7% y/y). Cold-rolled flat products accounted for another 12%, or 201.71 thousand tons (+0.7% y/y).
