Ukrainian seaports set a record for container throughput in 2025

Ukrainian seaports continue to demonstrate resilience and efficiency even in the difficult conditions of war and a global logistical crisis. According to the Association of Sea Freight Forwarders of Ukraine (ASFFU), ports handled 134,190 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) in January-August 2025, which is 3.3% more than in the same period in 2024. This is the highest container throughput since the start of the full-scale war.

The structure of shipments indicates active cargo movement: exports – 66.89 thousand TEU, imports – 63.04 thousand TEU, transit – 4.26 thousand TEU. The results demonstrate that Ukrainian ports remain reliable partners for business and are capable of handling cargo even in crisis conditions.

Port managers emphasize cargo safety, operational efficiency, and infrastructure development, which allows for increased throughput and improved service quality. This also supports the development of related sectors of the economy, in particular transport and logistics companies.

Despite all the challenges, Ukrainian seaports not only maintain stable operations but also set new records, confirming their important role in the global supply chain and the country’s economic stability.

It should be noted that in January-August 2025, Ukrainian Railaways reduced the volume of containerized cargo transportation by 15% compared to the same period in 2024, to 151.89 thousand TEU. The leader among cargoes in terms of container transport volumes is grain (26% of the total transport volume) – 40.02 thousand TEU. Ferrous metals accounted for 21% of transport, or 32.28 thousand TEU.
