Ukrainian sea corridor handled over 93 million tons of cargo

The Ukrainian sea corridor, which has been operating since the fall of 2023, has reached a new record. As of December 2024, it has exported 93.3 million tons of cargo, Interfax-Ukraine reports, citing data from the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development.

During this period, more than 3,500 vessels used the corridor to transport products to ports in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the United States. Ukrainian agricultural products play a key role among the cargo. In the first year of operation, 75 million tons of cargo were exported through the sea corridor, of which 50.1 million tons were agricultural products.

The total cargo turnover of Ukrainian seaports in 2024 reached 97 million tons. This demonstrates the growing efficiency of Ukrainian maritime logistics even in the face of a full-scale war.

Currently, there are six seaports in Ukraine: three ports of the Greater Odesa Region (Odesa, Chornomorsk, Pivdennyi) and three ports on the Danube River (Izmail, Reni, Ust-Dunaisk). Thanks to the well-coordinated work of these ports, Ukraine continues to ensure stable exports of goods to international markets.

The Ukrainian maritime corridor remains a key channel for supporting exports, emphasizing the importance of port infrastructure for the country’s economy and international trade.

In 11 months of 2024, Ukraine’s seaports handled 16.7 million tons of iron ore, up from 3.2 million tons in January-November 2023.

Overall, in 2023, Ukrainian ports increased cargo handling by 5% year-on-year – to 62 million tons, with iron ore transshipment accounting for 5.9% of total cargo turnover, or 1.9 million tons. This can be considered the beginning of the industry’s recovery after a difficult 2022, when port cargo turnover fell by 2.6 times compared to pre-war 2021.
