Ukrainian Railways transported 2.36 million tons of iron ore for export in September

Ukainian Railways (UZ) by the end of September 2024 increased the transportation of iron and manganese ore by 1.7% compared to the previous month – to 2.361 million tons. Compared to September 2023, the indicator increased by 62.5%. GMK Center was informed about this by the press service of the railway operator.

1.313 million tons of raw materials or 55.6% of the volume of export shipments of iron ore were transported in the direction of sea ports. Through land transit – 1.048 million tons (44.4%).

Transportation of ferrous metals for export during September amounted to 494.3 thousand tons, which is 12.8% less than the previous month and 49.2% more than September 2023. In the direction of the ports, 365.2 thousand tons were exported of corresponding production (73.9% of the total export volume of ferrous metals), and through land transit – 129.1 thousand. t.

In general, in September 2024, UZ transported 13.84 million tons of cargo, which is 2.4% less month-on-month and 14.9% more year-on-year.

«Massive rocket fire has had a significant impact on the state of the energy industry, certain types of industry, and transport infrastructure, which affects the dynamics of cargo transportation volumes,» UZ notes.

In the export report, 6.18 million tons of cargo were transported for the month, which is 6.1% less month-on-month and by 72.6% more y/y. In the structure of export transportation, the key places are occupied by: grain – 2.29 million tons (37% of the total volume of processed cargo), iron ore (38.2%) and ferrous metals (8%).

In January-September 2024, export shipments of ferrous metals amounted to 25.19 million tons (+2 times y/y), grain – 25.78 million t (+62.9% y/y), ferrous metals – 3.99 million tons (+18.5% y/y). In total, during the period, UZ transported 131.88 million tons of cargo, which is 23.3% more year-on-year. 63.92 million tons of goods were transported for export (+66.4% y/y).

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, UZ transported 148.4 million tons of cargo, which is 1.5% or 2.2 million tons less than in 2022. Transportation of heavy metals decreased by 13.2% y/y, to 27.5 million tons, ferrous metals – by 10.6% y/y, to 8.2 million tons, grain – increased by 5.9% g/y, up to 30.6 million tons.
