Ukrainian Railways temporarily limited the transportation of coal concentrate to Slovakia

Ukrainian Railways (UZ) introduced two temporary restrictions on cargo transportation to Poland and Slovakia. Rail.Insider informs about it.

Restrictions on the transportation of coal concentrate to Slovakia came into effect on April 11. It is about transportation to the Ganyska station near Košice via Uzhhorod. The convention has been implemented in relation to the shipments of Svyato-Varvarynska Processing Plant LLC to the recipient US Steel Kosice, and it will be in effect until canceled.

In addition, on April 9, temporary restrictions on the transportation of grain to the Szczecin Port Central station (Poland) came into force. It is noted that it is prohibited to accept cargo for the carrier PKP Cargo. The Convention applies to a number of goods.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Ukrainian Railways transported to Slovakia in March 2023 more than 1 million tons of iron ore. 570,000 tons of iron ore were shipped to the US Slovak steel plant Steel Kosice, more than 490 thousand tons – to Czech and Austrian recipients. In general, during March 2023, UZ transported 1.74 million tons of iron and manganese ores for export, increasing the volume of transportation by 32.2% compared to February.

In March 2023, UZ transported 12.2 million tons of cargo, which is 47% more compared to the same month of 2022, and 8.7% more compared to February. During this period, 5.3 million tons of goods were shipped for export (+73.4% y/y and +4% m/m). For January-March 2023, the railway operator reduced freight transportation by 38% y/y – to 34.7 million tons. 15.54 million tons of goods were shipped for export during this period.
