Ukrainian Railways sold 10.9 thousand tons of scrap for UAH 85 million

During a series of auctions on the Prozorro.Sales platform scheduled for July 14, Ukrainian Railways (UZ) successfully sold 10.9 thousand tons of ferrous metal scrap for UAH 84.84 million. The signing of protocols with the winners is currently pending.

A total of 56 lots with raw materials worth UAH 200.77 million and weighing 27.32 thousand tons were offered for sale. Only 20 auctions were successfully held. Another 36 did not take place due to an insufficient number of participants. Among the winners were Ukrpobutbruskh, Zakhid-Technomedbud, Ukrmet Cent, Metinvest-Resurs, and Ukrmet-Intvest.

The average price per ton of raw materials after the auctions rose to 7.79 thousand UAH compared to 7.66 thousand UAH at the start of trading. At the same time, the highest price per ton reached 9.3 thousand UAH, and the lowest – 5.4 thousand UAH.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Ukrainian Railways resumed scrap trading on May 16 this year. Prior to that, raw materials had not been sold since September 2023. In the first nine months of that year, the railway operator sold only 76.4 thousand tons of scrap, while in 2022, it sold 113 thousand tons against the planned 170 thousand tons.

Since May, the railway operator has held several rounds of auctions, most of which have been unsuccessful. In particular, 20.09 thousand tons of scrap metal were sold for UAH 167.95 million, while raw materials worth about UAH 700 million were offered for sale. Among the buyers were NPP Ferolit, Ukrpobutbruskh, Zakhid-Technomedbud, Lyon Agro, Metinvest-Resource, and others.

Participants are not encouraged to participate, probably due to the inflated price. In particular, the last auction in 2023, after which there was a long break in trading on the part of UZ, took place at a price of 5.1-6.5 thousand UAH/ton (6.35 thousand UAH/ton on average from 53 lots). Thus, the most valuable type of scrap (Type 3) rose in price by more than 2 thousand UAH/t. At the same time, prices at scrap collection centers as of June 2025 ranged from 3.5 thousand UAH/t to 6 thousand UAH/t.
