Ukrainian Railways repaired over 700 km of tracks in January-August

Completed works are 62% of those planned for the current year

In January-August 2024, Ukrainian Railways (UZ) repaired 737.6 km of tracks and continues to upgrade its infrastructure. The volume of work performed is 62% of the planned for the current year. This is stated in a press release from the railway operator.

The railways have been actively working to upgrade the tracks in the southern and western directions. Thus, almost 239 km of tracks was overhauled in areas with heavy train traffic and about 499 km were repaired with other repairs. The type and scope of work on certain sections is chosen depending on the degree of track deterioration and the need to fully or partially replace its elements.

In addition, over 8 months of this year, 634 turnouts were renovated, including 142 overhauls and 492 other types of repairs.

In 2024, UZ plans to repair almost 1.2 thousand km of railway tracks. In particular, 386 km of tracks will be overhauled, and 810 km of tracks will be renewed with medium repairs.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukrainian Railways increased the volume of track repairs by 19.6% compared to 2022, to 1.31 thousand km. In particular, 495.6 km of tracks was repaired by overhaul, which is 5.7% more than in 2022, and 812.7 km of tracks was repaired by medium repair (+30% y/y). In addition, 284 sets of turnouts were overhauled.

Last year, UZ built 528 freight railcars at its own facilities, which was a record for the last five years. In particular, 427 fitting platforms were manufactured last year.
