Ukrainian Railways puts up for sale 12 thousand tons of scrap for UAH 87.3 million

On May 16, 2025, JSC Ukrainian Railways (UZ) resumed trading in ferrous scrap on the Prozorro.Sale platform after a two-year break. The company has put up for auction 12 thousand tons of raw materials with a total value of UAH 87.31 million.

In total, 33 lots of raw materials with an average value of UAH 2.6 million are up for sale. The types of scrap include 3 (axles of railway wheelsets, railcar parts), 10 (shavings), 4 (worn-out brakes), 1 (railcar body parts), 312 (springs), and 9 (general scrap).

The auctions are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on May 26. Bids will be accepted at 20:00 on May 25. The scrap will be located in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Poltava, Odesa and Chernihiv regions.

“We are forming lots ranging from 130 to 700 tons. It is crucial for us to ensure that the auction is as competitive as possible, with maximum participation and results. For our part, we have done preparatory work, in particular, we have switched to the updated DSTU, reduced the number of shipping points, etc.,” said Yevhen Shramko, Member of the Management Board of JSC Ukrainian Railways, Repair and Production Division.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Ukrainian Railways stopped selling scrap to the domestic market in September 2023. In the first 9 months of that year, the railway operator sold only 76.4 thousand tons of scrap, while in 2022 it sold 113 thousand tons against the target of 170 thousand tons.

Recently, the Cabinet of Ministers simplified the procedure for disposing of property for Ukrainian Railways, according to which the company can independently, without government approval, decide on the disposal of property if its book value does not exceed UAH 500 million.

This decision is expected to enable UZ to receive over 218.6 thousand tons of ferrous scrap (worth UAH 1.6 billion) and 3.8 thousand tons of non-ferrous scrap (worth UAH 233.4 million).
