Ukrainian Railways put up for sale more than 5 thousand tons of ferrous metal scrap

On June 12, 2025, JSC Ukrainian Railways (UZ) put up for electronic auction in the system Prozorro.Sales 5.9 thousand tons of ferrous scrap with a total starting value of UAH 41.71 million.

In total, 15 lots are presented for realization, which are offered for the first time. The average cost of a ton of raw materials is 6.71 thousand UAH/t, while depending on the lot, the cost varies from 5.32 thousand UAH/t to 8.36 thousand UAH/t. Among the types of scrap – 3 (axles of railway wheel sets, parts of cars), 10 (shavings), 1 (parts of the body of the car), 316.

Auctions are scheduled for June 20, 2025. Completion of bids will take place at 20:00, June 19.

As GMK Center reported, Ukrainian Railways resumed trade in scrap on May 16 this year. Prior to that, the sale of raw materials was not carried out since September 2023. For 9 months of that year, the railway operator sold only 76.4 thousand tons of scrap, while in 2022 – 113 thousand tons with the planned 170 thousand tons.

Since then, the railway operator has twice held a series of bidding, trying to sell 12 thousand tons of raw materials for UAH 87.3 million. The first attempt was unsuccessful, but during the second bidding it managed to successfully conduct 7 auctions out of 33. Thus, UZ sold 1.66 thousand tons of scrap for UAH 12.96 mln. The starting price increased by UAH 1.1 mln.

It should be noted that the Cabinet of Ministers recently simplified the procedure of property disposal for Ukrainian Railways, according to which the company can independently, without consulting the government, make decisions on the alienation of property, if its book value does not exceed UAH 500 million.

It is expected that thanks to this decision, UZ, in particular, will be able to receive more than 218.6 thousand tons of ferrous scrap (for UAH 1.6 billion) and 3.8 thousand tons of non-ferrous scrap and alloys (for UAH 233.4 million).
