JSC Ukrainian Railways (UZ) plans to repair almost 1.2 thousand km of railway tracks in 2024. This is stated in press release railway operator.
«The railroad has launched a season of track repair and maintenance work that will upgrade the infrastructure in areas with heavy train traffic. By the end of 2024, the railroad plans to repair more than 1195 km of tracks and 1073 sets of switches,» the statement said.
In particular, overhaul will be performed on 386 km of tracks, 810 km of tracks will be renewed with medium repairs. Track repair and maintenance works will be deployed in areas with heavy train traffic and high levels of wear and tear.
In addition, in 2024, the railroad plans to restore 5 artificial structures that were damaged as a result of hostilities.
«The purpose of each repair is to ensure safe and stable train traffic. The repairs will not affect the rhythm of passenger transportation. Ukrainian Railways will not cancel passenger flights without providing an alternative: the company offers detours and transfer routes or enhances alternative connections every time,» UZ summarizes.
As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukrainian Railways increased track repairs by 19.6% compared to 2022, to 1.31 thousand km. In particular, 495.6 km of tracks was repaired by overhaul, which is 5.7% more than in 2022, and 812.7 km of tracks was repaired by average repair (+30% y/y). In addition, 284 sets of turnouts were overhauled.
Last year, UZ built 528 freight railcars at its own facilities, which was a record for the last five years. In particular, 427 fitting platforms were produced last year.
