Ukrainian Railways has put scrap worth UAH 267 million up for sale

On July 24, 2025, Ukrainian Railways JSC published 107 lots of ferrous metal scrap on the Prozorro.Sales platform. A total of 35.43 thousand tons of raw materials with a total starting price of UAH 266.96 million are offered for sale.

A series of auctions is scheduled for August 1 of this year. The average cost of a ton of scrap is UAH 7.51 thousand. The types of raw materials include 1, 2.3, 9, 10, 301, 303, 304, 309, and 312. All lots are being offered for sale again. The deadline for submitting bids is July 31 at 8:00 p.m.

On July 24, UZ successfully held one auction out of the planned 19 for the sale of scrap metal. A total of 7.79 thousand tons of raw materials with a total starting price of UAH 57.8 million were offered for sale. Metinvest-Resource LLC purchased 133 tons of raw materials for UAH 1.25 million at an initial price of UAH 1.01 million.

As reported by GMK Center, Ukrainian Railways resumed scrap trading on May 16 this year. Prior to that, raw materials had not been sold since September 2023. In the first nine months of that year, the railway operator sold only 76,400 tons of scrap, while in 2022, it sold 113,000 tons against a planned 170,000 tons.

Since May, the railway operator has held several rounds of auctions, most of which have been unsuccessful. In particular, 20,220 tons of scrap were sold for UAH 169.2 million, while raw materials worth about UAH 750 million were offered for sale. Among the buyers were NPP Ferolit, Ukrpobutbruskh, Zakhid-Technomedbud, Lyon Agro, Metinvest-Resource, and others.

Participants are not encouraged to participate, probably due to the inflated price. In particular, the last auction in 2023, after which there was a long break in trading on the part of UZ, took place at a price of 5.1-6.5 thousand UAH/ton (6.35 thousand UAH/ton on average from 53 lots). Thus, the most valuable type of scrap (Type 3) rose in price by more than 2 thousand UAH/t. At the same time, prices at scrap metal collection centers as of June 2025 ranged from 3.5 thousand UAH/t to 6 thousand UAH/t.
