Ukrainian Railways has canceled all auctions for the sale of scrap for UAH 87.3 million

Ukrainian Railways has canceled all auctions for the sale of ferrous scrap that were announced on May 16, 2025, for the first time after a two-year break. A total of 12,000 tons of raw materials worth UAH 87.31 million were put up for auction in the Prozorro.Sales system.

The sale of the raw materials was hindered by a lack of bidders. Among the bidders for the auctions were Zakhid-Tekhnomedbud, Lyon Agro, and NDMZ LLC.

In total, 33 lots of raw materials with an average value of UAH 2.6 million were offered for sale. The types of scrap included 3 (railway wheelset axles, railcar parts), 10 (shavings), 4 (worn brakes), 1 (railcar body parts), 312 (springs), and 9 (general scrap).

The average price per ton of raw materials ranged from 5.32 thousand UAH/t to 7.6 thousand UAH/t (7.2 thousand UAH/t on average from 33 lots). At the same time, the last auction in 2023 was held at the price of 5.1-6.5 thousand UAH/t (6.35 thousand UAH/t on average from 53 lots). Thus, the most valuable type of scrap (Type 3) has risen in price by more than UAH 1 thousand.

As a reminder, Ukrainian Railways stopped selling scrap to the domestic market in September 2023. In the first 9 months of that year, the railway operator sold only 76.4 thousand tons of scrap, while in 2022 it sold 113 thousand tons against the target of 170 thousand tons.

Recently, the Cabinet of Ministers simplified the procedure for disposing of property for Ukrainian Railways, according to which the company can independently, without government approval, decide on the disposal of property if its book value does not exceed UAH 500 million.

This decision is expected to enable UZ to receive over 218.6 thousand tons of ferrous scrap (worth UAH 1.6 billion) and 3.8 thousand tons of non-ferrous scrap (worth UAH 233.4 million).
