Ukrainian ports saw a 35.8% y/y increase in cargo transshipment in April

In April 2026, Ukraine’s seaports handled over 8.2 million tons of cargo, a 35.8% increase compared to the same month last year. This growth occurred despite a significant intensification of attacks on the country’s port and logistics infrastructure, according to a statement from the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).

Over 500 drone attacks on logistics facilities were recorded in April. In fact, ports were under fire nearly every other day, yet the industry managed to ensure uninterrupted operations and fulfill foreign trade contracts.

From January to April 2026, Ukrainian seaports handled 29.5 million tons of cargo, exceeding the figure for the same period in 2025. Agricultural products traditionally accounted for the bulk of the cargo flow. Grain transshipment volumes reached 16 million tons, a 7% increase year-over-year.

The growth in cargo turnover indicates the logistics sector’s gradual adaptation to operating under conditions of constant security risks. Ports remain a key element of Ukrainian exports, ensuring the delivery of agricultural products, metallurgical raw materials, and other cargo to foreign markets.

Market participants note that the stable operation of maritime terminals is critical for foreign exchange earnings and supporting the Ukrainian economy. At the same time, the continued efficiency of port logistics will largely depend on the security situation in the Black Sea and the protection of infrastructure from attacks.

As a reminder, Ukraine’s seaports handled over 82.2 million tons of cargo in 2025. The planned cargo turnover for last year was 86.2 million tons, with the actual result exceeding 95% of the target. The forecast cargo turnover figure (81.77 million tons) was exceeded by 100.5%. More than half (53.7% of the total transshipment volume) last year consisted of agricultural products—44.2 million tons.
