Ukrainian pipe producers reduced product exports by 11.8% y/y

In 2023, Ukrainian pipe producers reduced exports by 11.8% compared to 2022, to 356.35 thousand tons. Revenue from pipe exports decreased by 15% y/y – to $587.11 million, according to the State Customs Service.

In December 2023, Ukraine exported 22.86 thousand tons of pipes, down 18.6% compared to November and 10.8% y/y. Export revenue from product sales decreased by 18.9% m/m and 31.7% y/y – to $31.52 million.

In January-December, Ukraine exported the most seamless pipes, tubes and hollow profiles (HS 7304) – 281.25 thousand tons for $524.58 million. In December, 18.25 thousand tons of such products were shipped (-5.7% m/m) for $27.98 million (-11.1% m/m).

In addition, in January-December, 73.27 thousand tons of other ferrous pipes, tubes and profiles (HS 7306) were shipped abroad for $61.03 million, including 4.61 thousand tons (-46.4% m/m) in December for $3.54 million (-51.5% m/m).

The main consumers of Ukrainian pipes are Germany, the US, Romania and Poland.

In 2022, Ukrainian pipe companies produced 608 thousand tons of pipes, down 38% compared to 2021. The enterprises of Ukrtrubprom reduced the output of pipe products by 37.9% y/y – to 449.7 thousand tons.

The industry’s performance was affected by logistical problems, as well as by the strikes on energy infrastructure facilities and, as a result, the restriction of electricity supply at the end of 2022. Pipe companies exported products through western border crossings and European seaports, which increased logistics costs by 2-3 times and affected the cost of pipe products.

As a result, exports of pipes from Ukraine decreased by 33.6% year-on-year – to 400.4 thousand tons in 2022. In monetary terms, exports for the period amounted to $688.5 million, which is 10.1% less than in 2021.

The main producers of pipes in Ukraine are Interpipe NIKO TUBE LLC, Interpipe NTRP, DMZ Kominmet, Interpipe NMPP, Trubostal, Centravis, Dnipropetrovsk Pipe Plant and Slavsant.
