Ukrainian pipe producers increased product exports by 13.6% m/m in August

In August 2023, pipe producers of Ukraine increased the export of products by 13.6% compared to July 2023 – up to 25.82 thousand tons. The revenue from the export of pipes for the month increased by 9.2% m/m – up to $40.92 million. This is evidenced by State Customs Service’s data.

Compared to August 2022, in August 2023, pipe enterprises of Ukraine reduced revenue from product sales by 7.6%. Export volumes remained at the level of last year.

InJanuary-August 2023, Ukraine shipped 246.05 thousand tons of pipes worth $432.8 million for export. Revenue from the sale of products abroad fell by 2.5% compared to the same period last year, and export volumes decreased by 5.5%.

In January-August 2023, Ukraine exported the most seamless pipes, tubes and hollow profiles (HS 7304) – 196 thousand tons for $390.2 million. In August, 18.8 thousand tons of such products were shipped (-17.9% y/y) for $35.3 million (-14.7% y/y).

Also, during January-August, 48.6 thousand tons of other pipes, tubes and hollow profiles made of ferrous metals (HS 7306) worth $41.4 million were shipped abroad, in particular, in August 6.8 thousand tons (+2.4 times y/y) for $5.4 million (+96.9% y/y).

The main consumers of Ukrainian-made pipes are Germany, the USA, Romania and Poland.

In 2022 pipe companies of Ukraine produced 608 thousand tons of pipes, which is 38% less compared to 2021. Last year, the enterprises of the association Ukrtrubprom reduced the production of pipe products by 37.9% y/y – to 449.7 thousand tons.

The production indicators of the industry was affected by logistical problems, as well as strikes on energy infrastructure facilities and, as a result, restrictions on the supply of electricity at the end of last year. Pipe companies exported products through western border crossings and European seaports, which increased logistics costs by 2-3 times and affected the cost price of pipe products.

As a result, the export of pipes from Ukraine decreased in 2022 by 33.6% year-on-year – to 400.4 thousand tons. In monetary terms, exports for this period amounted to $688.5 million, which is 10.1% less than in 2021.

The main producers of pipes in Ukraine are Interpipe NIKO TUBE LLC, Interpipe NTRP, DMZ Kominmet, Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol, Interpipe NMPP, Trubostal, Centravis, Dnipropetrovsk Pipe Plant and Slavsant.
