During this period, 160.3 thousand tons seamless pipes were shipped

In January-June 2023, pipe companies of Ukraine reduced the export of pipes by 3% compared to the same period in 2022 – to 197.5 thousand tons. The revenue from the export of pipes during this period increased by 1.6% y/y – up to $354.4 million. This is evidence data State Customs Service.

In June 2023, Ukrainian pipe companies shipped 30,100 tons of products abroad. This is 19.2% less than the previous month, and 44.7% less than in June 2022. Export revenue for the month fell by 22.7% m/m and 47% y/y.

In January-June 2023, Ukraine exported the most seamless pipes, tubes and hollow profiles (Nomenclature 7304) – 160.32 thousand tons for $322.4 million. In June, 22.32 thousand tons of such products were shipped (-57% y/y; -25.3% m/m) for $43 million (-52.2% y/y; -24.9% m/m).

Also, during January-June, 36.1 thousand tons of other hollow pipes, tubes and profiles made of ferrous metals (Nomenclature 7306) were shipped abroad for $31.1 million, in particular, in June 7.57 thousand tons (+213% y/y; +5.4% m/m) for $6.27 million (+82% y/y; -4.9% m/m).

The main consumers of Ukrainian-made pipes are Germany, the USA, Italy and Poland.

In 2022, the pipe companies of Ukraine produced 608 thousand tons of pipes, which is 38% less compared to 2021. Last year, the enterprises of the association Ukrtrubprom reduced the production of pipe products by 37.9% y/y – to 449.7 thousand tons.

The production capacity of the industry was affected by logistical problems, as well as strikes on energy infrastructure facilities and, as a result, restrictions on the supply of electricity at the end of last year. Pipeline companies exported products through western border crossings and European seaports, which increased logistics costs by 2-3 times and affected the cost price of pipe products.

As a result, the export of pipes from Ukraine decreased in 2022 by 33.6% year-on-year – to 400.4 thousand tons. In monetary terms, exports for this period amounted to $688.5 million, which is 10.1% less than in 2021.

The main producers of pipes in Ukraine are Interpipe NIKO TUBE LLC, Interpipe NTRP, DMZ Kominmet, Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol, Interpipe NMPP, Trubostal, Centravis, Dnipropetrovsk Pipe Plant and Slavsan.
