The key destinations for shipments are Algeria and Poland

In January 2025, Ukrainian ferroalloy companies exported 8.33 thousand tons of products, compared to 0.2 thousand tons in January 2024, when the main producers were idle and limited shipments to a historic low. This is according to GMK Center’s calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.

In January, exports increased by 71.1% compared to December last year and reached their highest level since August.

Algeria, Poland and Turkey were the key consumers of Ukrainian-made ferroalloy products in the month, accounting for 3.73 thousand tons, 3.32 thousand tons and 0.8 thousand tons respectively. Last year, Poland, Italy and Turkey were among the largest importers of ferroalloys from Ukraine. Thus, we can see a diversification of shipments, with deliveries to Italy halted, while consumers from northwest Africa compensated for these losses.

In January, ferroalloy companies’ export revenues amounted to $8.65 million, while in December 2024 it was $4.66 million, and in January – $0.86 million.

In 2024, Ukrainian ferroalloy plants reduced production by 49.4% y/y – to 108.2 thousand tons. The industry resumed operations in April-May after a forced shutdown in the fall of 2023.

Thus, exports of ferroalloys for the year decreased by 77.5% compared to 2023 – from 344.17 thousand tons to 77.32 thousand tons. In 2022, this figure was 349.56 thousand tons, and in 2021 – 668.54 thousand tons.

Last year, the key consumers of Ukrainian-made ferroalloy products were Poland – 20.94 thousand tons (189.34 thousand tons in 2023), Turkey – 45.69 thousand tons (45.69 thousand tons), and Italy – 16.96 thousand tons (18.74 thousand tons).

Market expectations for 2025 are negative. According to Sergiy Kudryavtsev, Executive Director of UkrFa, the key problem for the industry is the high cost of electricity and the stability of its supply. Overall, the mood is largely negative with an element of uncertainty.
