Ukraine will continue to develop logistics on the border with the EU

In 2023, Ukraine will continue to develop logistics on the border with the EU. This was stated by the deputy prime minister for the reconstruction of Ukraine – the Minister of community development, territories and infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov, reports the department’s website.

According to him, it is about opening new checkpoints on the border with the European Union and increasing the capacity of existing ones. And also about the construction of roads, bridges and railways, which are of critical importance for Ukrainian exports.

As Oleksandr Kubrakov reported, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian side has been working together with the EU on the development of infrastructure projects for the development of alternative logistics routes. In particular, over the past year, Ukraine has increased the capacity of two more existing checkpoints and improved railway logistics at the border.

The ministry reminds that since the beginning of the war, a new «Krasnoilsk» road checkpoint was opened on the border with Romania, the throughput capacity of the «Krakowec» checkpoint on the border with Poland was increased, and work was resumed on the Rakhiv-Romanian Valia Vysheului railway route.

In 2023, the country is also counting on the extension of the Ukraine-EU road transport liberalization agreement, which expires in June, noted Oleksandr Kubrakov.

As GMK Center reported earlier, according to preliminary estimates of the Ministry of Economy, in accordance with the trade balance methodology, the export of goods to EU countries in 2022 increased by 4.2% compared to 2021 – up to $28 billion. In addition, exports increased thanks to measures taken by our partners unilaterally, or jointly by Ukraine and partners. This is, in particular, the opening of European markets for Ukrainian goods, the EU initiative Paths of Solidarity, customs visa-free, transport visa-free, etc.

Also, in 2022 Ukrzaliznytsia transported 150.6 million tons of cargo, which is 52.1% less than in 2021. Domestic cargo transportation in 2022 accounted for 50.6% of the total volume of processed cargo. Compared to 2021, domestic transportation decreased by 49.2%. In 2022, the share of export transportation was 39.5% (-47.1% y/y), import – 8.2% (-69.5% y/y).
