Ukrmetalurgprom proposes to create an international advisory board consisting of industry experts

Ukraine called on international experts to support its iron and steel industry, as the war destroys infrastructure and causes a shortage of labor. It is reported by The Northern Miner.

As noted, the association of enterprises Ukrmetalurgprom sent an open letter to the world mining companies. The group representing the Ukrainian steel industry calls the destruction of Mariupol steel plants and logistical issues significant problems. In addition, more than 20 thousand employees of the industry joined the army, which led to a critical shortage of qualified personnel.

«We propose the creation of an international advisory board consisting of expert volunteers, past and present leaders, consultants and researchers to help. You will become part of the historical efforts aimed at restoring the nation and reforming the industry,» said Olexander Kalenkov, president of Ukrmetalurgprom, in a letter.

Steel sector of Ukraine is vital for maintaining the country’s defense capability and restoring other industries. The industry provides 11-12% of GDP, its importance goes beyond economic statistics. In addition, each job in metallurgy creates five more jobs in supporting sectors.

Ukraine, despite the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, seeks to join the EU strategy on green steel, invest in renewable energy sources and expand the variety of jobs. It also counts on its iron ore deposits and strategic location to meet European demand and increase trade volumes.

«A demonstration of support from the global workforce is essential to provide advice and exchange experience with Ukrainian workers,» said Olexander Kalenkov.

The president of Ukrmetalurgprom said that to overcome the shortage of personnel, the industry has begun to hire more women, and can take advantage of global progress in creating inclusive jobs. Ukrainian steel companies have also taken security measures for their employees, the industry supports military personnel and those returning from the army.

Oleksandr Kalenkov believes that the restoration and transformation of the Ukrainian metallurgical industry is achievable, but only with the support of the global mining community.

«We invite skilled workers, engineers and visionaries from around the world to join us in this monumental task. Together we can create a sustainable future for this important industry. «
