Ukraine saw a 55% y/y decline in long-product exports in January–April

In January–April 2026, Ukraine’s steelmakers reduced exports of long steel products by 55% compared to the same period in 2025, down to 105,540 metric tons. This is according to calculations by the GMK Center based on data from the State Customs Service.

36.2% of total long product exports consisted of other carbon steel bars and rods, not further worked, twisted (HS Code 7214)—38,230 tons (-57.8% y/y). 21,960 tons were shipped to Poland, 13,430 tons to Moldova, and 2,320 tons to Romania.

During this period, Ukrainian producers exported 27.87 thousand tons of unalloyed steel wire (HS Code 7217), which is 37.3% less year-on-year. The bulk of the production was shipped to Poland—6,990 tons. Another 5,720 tons were exported to Germany and 3,350 tons to Moldova.

28.59 thousand tons (-64.7% year-on-year) of exports consisted of hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel, in coils (HS Code 7213). Among the main consumers: Poland – 11.64 thousand tons, Lithuania – 4.61 thousand tons, Romania – 9.9 thousand tons.

In April, exports of long products totaled 35.96 thousand tons, which is 38.4% less than in April 2025, but 26.3% more than the previous month.

Shipments of other carbon steel bars and rods, not further worked, twisted (HS 7214) totaled 11.99 thousand tons (-53% y/y; +21.3% m/m), and shipments of unalloyed steel wire (HS 7217) amounted to 8.62 thousand tons (-21.5% y/y; +15.9% m/m), and hot-rolled bars and billets made of carbon steel, in coils (HS 7213) – 12.3 thousand tons (-35.8% y/y; +47.6% m/m).

Foreign exchange revenue from long product exports in January–April decreased by 50.3% y/y to $80.73 million, and in April—by 34.6% y/y and increased by 29.2% m/m – to $27.78 million.

As a reminder, in 2025, Ukraine increased exports of long steel products by 45.4% compared to the same period in 2024—to 892.07 thousand tons. Hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel, in coils (HS Code 7213), accounted for 42.4% of total long product exports—378,520 metric tons (+46.5% year-on-year). Foreign exchange earnings increased by 34.9% year-on-year, to $609.8 million.
