Ukraine’s mining & metals sector reduced the consumption of gas by 6% in January–May

According to Ukrmetallurgprom, mining & metals companies reduced gas consumption by 6% within the first five months of 2019, down to 740 million cubic meters, compared to the same period of the previous year.

Since the beginning of the year, Ukrainian steelmakers reduced electricity consumption by 2%, down to 4.85 billion kWh, compared to the same period a year earlier.

In January to May, Ukrainian steel plants ramped up production of pig iron, steel, and steel rolled products. The output of steel increased by 7%, up to 9.3 million tons; steel rolled products by 3%, up to 7.9 million tons; and pig iron by 2%, up to 8.7 million tons, compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the meantime, companies of the mining & metals sector may boost production of pig iron and steel rolled products in July.
