In 2020, Ukrainian coking plants decreased production coking coals and coal concentrate by 6.4% to 9.67 million tons against 2019, according to the updated statistics of Ukrmetallurgprom.
Last year’s shipments of Ukrainian coal to domestic steel companies amounted to 3.62 million tons, 3.5% up from 2019.
In general, Ukrainian coke plants received 13.29 million tons of coking coal in 2020, 3.9% down from 2019.
In January–December 2020, the share of imported coals in the total supply was 72.8% compared to 74.7% in 2019.
In 2020, Ukrainian coking plants cut shipments of coke by 7.3% to 8.18 million tons against 2019. Almost all of the supplied coking coals, 8.03 million tons, were produced in Ukraine. This is 4.8% down from the same period of 2019. Coke imports fell by 61.4% to 0.15 million tons.
The share of imported coke in the total volume of supplies made up 1.83% against 4.41% in 2019.
In 2019, Ukrainian coke plants received 13.92 million tons of coking coals. This is 4% down from the same period of 2018. The share of Ukrainian coals increased by a third to 3.5 million tons against 2018, whereas that of imported coals decreased by 12% to 10.43 million tons.
